Dry Casting Report July 2001

Aub's said he couldn't make it so I made an effort to get to the oval a little earlier, so as to have plenty of time to set up. It was a pleasant surprise to see a bloke make a special effort to be there at 6.30am to assist in setting up the casting arena. He gave me a hand then nicked off to work, so a BIG THANK YOU goes out to the "Big Bloke" Willo.

Well, the wind was up and the weather a little inclement at the start. By the scores the seniors put down some good distance casts but had trouble coping with the wind during the Double-handed event. Still, Nick won the 112 gram event; young Matt won the single-handed event. Mal won the double-handed event and Roy the Boy won the 56 gram event.

How was the day's casting? As we had a good tail wind, records were set by a couple of Vets and one very good young mini-junior. Rhys Jones reset the 112 gram to 88 metres, the 56 gram to 87 metres and then the single-hand to 29 points. An outstanding effort by a lad that always tries his best.

The Club owns an air conditioned holiday house at Kalbarri which is available for rent to the public and club members at competitive rates

"Roy the Boy" pulled out a great cast to reset the Vets 112 gram record to 149 metres, then broke the 56 gram record with casts of 138 and 139 metres. Beaming like a low stick he was, until I belted down a beauty in the 56 gram event and reset the club record to l49 metres. The best part was Roy was doing the scoring and accepted defeat gracefully. Still, Roy's efforts over the day won him the Winner of the Day.

Congratulations to "Big Ric" for his bullseye in the double-handed and also to Matt for his clanger in the single-handed.

All the casters were blessed with the attendance of a beautiful young lady at our casting day in July. Her first up efforts were great but it was her personality and behaviour that really stood out to us all. Blimey, she even said that next time she will bring her sister along to join in the fun. (Gee, if I was only 50 years younger!)

Thank you to all that assisted on the day and that sausage sizzle was a "warmer" at the end of casting. A couple of the lads stayed on and tried out different equipment and I heard casts of 175 to 189 metres were reached. Every little bit of practice will help in our endeavour at the State and National Titles. Nothing's better than beating the Eastern States boys on their own ground.

Don't forget to hang about next month for the SINGLE-HAND OPEN EVENT

Keep it tight and long

Hendo

PS: There's a silly rumour going around that "Stokes" is going to get serious about his drycasting from now on.

Come one - come all - for 10 minutes entertainment.

No casting on September 2nd (Father's Day) - Casting date will be 9th September
