January's field day was planned to coincide with the AAA run Sunsmart Mandurah 500 family fishing promotion. 17 club members signed
on for both competitions for what promised to be some good fishing close to home.
Going on the weather that had preceded the event, an afternoon sea breeze and a balmy evening was expected. Wrong, one should
never assume especially when it comes to the weather. The Saturday started out with some cloud cover and a gentle westerly breeze.
By late afternoon it had swung around to the south-west ahead of a cold front with the wind picking up to about 30 knots during
the evening, accompanied by a few rain squalls. As the swell increased so did the amount of floating weed which turned the
fishing into hard work.
As would be expected, with less than perfect weather conditions, not many fish were weighed-in in either the open competition or
for the club's field day.
