Penguin Island to Two Rocks Fishing Field Day December 2003.

The last field day for the year, but unfortunately not too many starters, only nine in total. Scarborough Beach was one of the destinations, the Swan River and Two Rocks were the others.

The fishing in general was rather quiet for the weekend. The breeze was in by 3.00pm and stayed that way until the night cast on Sunday evening.

Chas and the Stoeckel clan headed to Scarborough and fished into the evening. The only fish taken was a small Whaler of 4.2kg by Chas. Having exhausted all available willing fish they set off to the swan. This move, despite fishing to the very small hours of Sunday morning, proved fruitless.

The Club owns an air conditioned holiday house at Kalbarri which is available for rent to the public and club members at competitive rates

They weren't the only members to concentrate on the Swan, with Damian and Spencer in search of some flatfish and the possibility of an elusive mulloway. They were successful on the former but unfortunately not so on the latter. However their time was not wasted, 5 flathead to Spencer and one to Damian.

Vix and I headed north to the beaches between Two Rocks and Yanchep. The most abundant species here was the weed, the stiff breeze producing a steady stream of floating vegetation. However we didn't return empty handed but with a few tailor, tarwhine, flathead and whiting in the bag.

Conspicuous by his absence was Tony D'Alonzo, who is recuperating at home after a short stay in hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to his usual full bag at the weigh in.

Being the end of the year means that it is only two months away from what I think is the best field day of the year - Bluff Creek.

If you haven't been here before or in the last couple of years, in the words of Molly Meldrum, do yourself a favour and start organizing your camping gear now. Its prime camping conditions, flat ground behind sand dunes with a fresh water stream near by.

The fishing is generally very good, but as we all know you can't always guarantee a good catch but the trip is worth it none the less. Wide open beach, rocks to the east, turquoise southern ocean, does it get any better than this?

In closing I would like to wish every one the compliments of the season and may the New Year bring good health and happiness to you all.

Hope to see you on the beach. Malcolm Harris, Field Day Officer.

Species caught on this field day were:- herring, tailor, pike, flathead, tarwhine, whiting and a shark.
