What a great weekend!! The weather was magnificent; there was plenty of good company and some reasonable fish. You can't ask
for much more can you?
The group (most of us anyway) arrived at C shed on the Saturday morning around 07:00 all fired up and itching to be on the
way. John Romano went to Rouse Head to catch the ferry and found no Surfcasters and no ferry.
He then arrived at C shed to see the ferry departing out of the harbour. Ian Cook received his despondent phone call when
we arrived on the island. With some quick phone calls by Ian and John he arrived on the island and was on the bus for West
End by 11:10. John was a flustered but very relieved fellow.

The group all got off at Radar Hut and as usual all headed off in variety of directions. John Jardine, Mark Farnay and
Cookie went to Cathedral and out to the island to try for tailor. With no luck they headed back to the "Tailor Hole".
Most of the members tried various locations between Wilsons and Radar Reef. Nick Hocking and Spencer King fished live
baits of a high ledge near West End. They had no luck but made a great sight as they were silhouetted against the setting
sun later in the afternoon.
Tony Ong was fishing Radar and at about 16:30 he landed a Yellowtail King Fish just as John Jardine, Cookie and Tony
D'Alonzo arrived. The fishing tempo and concentration went up a couple of notches. Cookie hooked up on a large Yellowtail.
He got it up to the reef edge but due to over exuberance and a tight drag setting lost it on the reef. John hooked and
landed a Yellowtail King Fish.
The final score was:-
Tony D'Alonzo two hook-ups no fish.
John Jardine two hook-ups one fish.
Ian Cook two hook-ups one fish.
Tony Ong one hook-ups one fish.
Down at the Tailor Hole and Wilsons a variety of smaller fish were caught.
At sundown it was back to the units and a good feed and a few red wines and some of Tony D'Alonzo's Italian goodies.
Unfortunately we got little or no sleep due to a group of yahoos who carried on all night including races at 3 o'clock
in the morning. They were still up and drinking at 06:00 when we left for fishing.
Sunday morning was again calm fine and a relatively low tide. Members tried a multitude of spots but with only a few good
fish landed. Mark Farnay caught a lovely 1.45 kg Snook. Cookie and Spencer fished the Tennis Courts. Spencer hooked a
good size fish and as he landed it was heard to say: "Oh hell another Buffy" and was about to let it go till Cookie
pointed out NO it was not a Buff Bream but a large Tarwhine. Nick Hocking again fished the ledge at West End with no
fish landed. Tony D fished Fairbridge and got a good selection of species.
Overall the field day was enjoyed by all who attended. Put the May Rottnest field day next year on your preplanning
diary as all Rottnest field days are great fun and for $100 are good value.
Tight Lines, Cookie.
Species caught on this field day were:- herring, tailor, tarwhine, snook, yellow tail kingfish, western rock blackfish,
wrasse, breaksea cod, whiting, harlequin and skippy.
